The cavalcade of music artists calling it quits is growing.

With the recent announcements of Neil Diamond and Elton John calling time or about to call time on their careers, now Paul Simon has announced that his next tour will be his last.

A career that started in 1957, the 12-time Grammy award winner is famous for his work with Art Garfunkel, as well as his 1986 solo album Graceland, which went number one here in Australia and the UK.

On Twitter today, Simon cited the death of dear friend and guitarist Vincent N'guini as part of the reason for pulling the pin.

"His loss is not the only reason I've decided to stop touring but it is a contributing factor.

"Mostly, though, I feel the travel and time away from my family takes a toll that detracts from the joy of playing."

Homeward Bound - The Farewell Tour is currently scheduled for North America, the UK and Europe with the first date set down for mid-May in Vancouver, Canada.

Full tour details and dates can be found on his website.
