Changed Traffic Conditions: Yambil Street

Upgrades taking shape

There are changed traffic conditions in Yambil Street, as work moves to the north side of the street.

Griffith Mayor, Councillor John Dal Broi said it was good to see the upgrades and beautification taking shape.

“Footpath construction will be undertaken in conjunction with Telstra, who will replace existing telecommunications pits and manhole covers,” Cr Dal Broi said.

“As a consequence pedestrian thoroughfare will be managed on a daily basis as access to buildings is dependent on the physical replacement of Telstra pits and the laying of new footpath and driveways.”

The following traffic management arrangements are currently in place:

  • The north side of Yambil Street is closed from Ulong Street to Jondaryan Avenue. The Yambil Street/Ulong Street roundabout provides for a safer turning traffic flow than a temporary U-turn structure at the Kooyoo/Yambil Street intersection, noting that consideration must be given for both cars, trucks and semitrailers.
  • The south side of Yambil Street is opened to traffic and provides access to most centre median parking bays between Jondaryan Avenue and Ulong Street. Traffic travelling east along Yambil Street seeking parking between Ulong Street and Jondaryan Avenue should turn right at the Ulong Street roundabout onto Canal Street, turn left into Jondaryan Avenue and back onto Yambil Street where centre median parking is available.
  • Parallel parking is not available on either side of Yambil Street between Jondaryan Ave and Kooyoo Street.
  • Parking is available along the full length of Yambil Street except as outlined above.

Mayor Dal Broi said that these traffic plan arrangements will be reviewed in a about a week’s time following the evaluation of the northside set up and traffic movements.

It is now anticipated that Stage 1 will be completed by mid-June. Any changes to this timing will be promptly communicated.
