Every public hospital throughout the State will be involved in the distribution of COVID-19 vaccinations ensuring that all South Australians have access to this important step in stopping the disease.

Minister for Health and Wellbeing Stephen Wade said all public hospitals would be part of the vaccination rollout network, reaching out from the nine storage hubs announced recently.

The majority of the vaccination hubs are being established in regional South Australia

• Mount Gambier Hospital
• Whyalla Hospital
• Pt Pirie Hospital
• Pt Augusta Hospital

“South Australia is about to embark on the state’s biggest ever peacetime operation. Given the scale and complexity of the operation in front of us, we know that there will be road bumps, but we are determined to ensure the safe, efficient and timely delivery of vaccines in a prioritised manner,” Minister Wade said.

Minister Wade said South Australia’s COVID-19 vaccination program will be implemented in stages – in line with the Commonwealth Government’s supply schedule and priority groups.

“By undertaking a staged approach to the vaccination rollout in conjunction with GP services and pharmacies, we can make sure those most vulnerable to the effects of COVID-19 and those who have the highest risk of being exposed to, or spreading, the virus are vaccinated first,” Minister Wade said.

SA Health clinics will provide proportionately more vaccines to country clinics in the early stages of the roll out.

“We know just how important it is to get South Australians vaccinated against COVID-19 and that is why we are supporting the Commonwealth Government to make sure every single person in our state will have access to the vaccine.

“While the hubs will store the initial Pfizer vaccine, the Commonwealth Government is working with GPs and pharmacists to develop a network of clinics in metropolitan, regional and rural areas to administer the vaccinations.

“These clinics, along with hospital-based clinics, will continue to come online throughout each phase of the rollout to get supplies of the vaccination across the State, making sure no one misses out.”
